Director Ram the man who brought about a revolution with his KattradhuTamizh is back after a long wait with the much awaited movie "Thangameengal". Produced by Gautam V Menon's Photon Kaathas, the movie was delayed quite a number of times and has finally hit the screens today. True to his word, the movie is an abode of sentiments that revolve around various issues pertaining today in an ordinary family. Yuvan is the king of BGM and his soothing music has already made waves. So let us see what this movie is about.

The scenes revolving around Father-Daughter is so very beautifully depicted and it's very easy to compare a normal father, be it a wealthy billionaire to that of a man living by the huts. To simply put forward, spending time with your kid is worth more than anything you can crave for. That man is Kalyani in this movie. Though he is the hero of his kid, not so very much when it comes to everyone else, without a proper job and an income the tension that prevails in the house forces him to take up a job far away from the reach of his lovely daughter.

Just when you think, where the anger is and talk that we saw in his previous movies, the same aroma can be felt when Ram gets mad at the teachers and others who daunt upon his methods of raising a child. Sometimes the question that he puts forward is straightforward, but otherwise a little overboard as well. His acting as a lovable dad is far better than when he does the angry talk. The school system that frames a kid to be lesser than average, singling out all her emotions is dealt in a neat way. Might be an eye opener; however the impact it creates could've been even more fitting. That said, an ordinary man's feeling and his reaction is simple and painful in his mind that is reality.

If you come up to the theatres with the intention of getting back home with a message in your pocket, well the movie doesn't try to be all preachy and tell you what to do. It's like a journey that we experience through its feel that makes us more attached to every frame of it. Post first half, the pain of separation from a daughter is shown with class and emotionally upped screenplay. All you fathers out there far away from your daughters, these bits of emotions are for you. The little girlSadhana's acting is sweet and tender like coconut,her innocence is something we can relate to a child who reaches out to her dad for solace at her times of need!

Yuvan's BGM is spot on and delivers quite well. The signature tune that echoes through the movie dwells well with the movie's pace. "Anandha" song is breathtaking in all aspects, music, and cinematography rich in dad-daughter sentiment. Arabindhu's camera work is magnificent, be it the visuals around the mountains or the cycle ride through the valley!

Ram deserves a special mention for his direction cum acting, with only two movies he has proved his mettle and Kollywood needs more directors like him no doubt. The cameo by Padmapriya as a teacher might look uncalled for, however that's screenplay of twists!

Ergo, a movie is far more of an experience to feel and relish, go with your daughter and you are sure to enjoy!

Now the director brings a true to life reel marriage with the same actor, with a complete entertainer, 'Kalyana Samayal Saadham'.

Like it was promoted in the trailers and as true as it really is, every girl child in south India is brought up with the dreams and ultimate goal of marriage. Meera is no exception to the rule. When her parents start outsourcing for the perfect groom, her dreams come into the picture. A bold software professional turned mechanical engineer, Meera develops instant liking to Raghu, as suspiciously arranged by the two sets of parents. But Raghu has to go a long way to actually impress Meera. In the eight months from betrothal to marriage, the hero finally achieves it. So it is a picture perfect dream come true wedding. Only until the couple discover Raghu's sensitive incapability, which comes as a hindrance to the dreamed perfection. Do they manage to keep it a secret? Does the wedding still go through? Is the problem solved? This is what the two hours is about. A bold software professional turned mechanical engineer, Meera develops instant liking to Raghu, as suspiciously arranged by the two sets of parents. While the first half is considerably better entertaining than the second, most part of the movie is like actually being in a wedding house. All the incidents and the probable politics and misunderstandings between the two families and the gossips that go around, have been identified and highlighted in perfection. Prasanna with his smart charm and professional demeanour, is an apple of a groom. The actor has carried the essence of the story with the right emotions at the appropriate demanding situations. Lekha on the other hand is a gorgeous bride with her own girlish dreams and a strict sense of responsibility.

Though the movie is entertaining on the whole, the story is very short, and not quite a subject to be understood by the little yet important ones in the family. Screenplay is funny and entertaining nevertheless. Arrora's music boosts the comedy appeal at the right places, while Krishnan Vasant and Sathyaraj have brought a real wedding ceremony on screen. With little surprises and lots of family confusion, 'Kalayana Samayal Saadham' is a light hearted romantic comedy, complete with the gala of marriage and sincerity of love. All of us may have used the bus service and bought a ticket from the conductor. But not many of us stop to think how it would have been for the first time. 'Jannal Oram' is a journey from the very beginning, to an interesting destination on a thrilling ride. Karu Pazhaniappan has brought 'Ordinary' from God's own country, added Tamil flavours to it and served it in an interesting tale by the window, on a two-hour journey, 'Jannal Oram'.

Subbaiah dreams of becoming the Chief Minister one day, and is introduced to reality on his first day as a bus conductor with the Tamil Nadu transport. He takes charge as conductor of the sole bus service between Palani and Pannaikadu. Subbaiah is introduced to the gregarious Karuppu, the driver who he has to travel with. The two set out from Palani, picking up passengers on the way and ferrying them to Pannaikadu, where they stay over night and make the return trip the following day. In their journey, they befriend the inhabitants of Pannaikadu, and the two are treated very much as people of their own village. Rajesh as Vinayagam, fondly called Anna Sir, Ramana as Justin, Vidharth as Saami, Poorna as Nirmala David and Manisha Yadav as Kalyani play roles key to the story.

After the sad demise of her father, Nirmala David is adopted by the school teacher Anna Sir (Vinayagam), who later decides to get her married to his own son Shiva, who works in Surat. While Nirmala the teacher, waits for Shiva's return so that they tie the knot into happy wedded life, Justin evinces interest to marry the same girl. Justin is an ambitious and angry young man, who gets dejected by the failure, but chooses not to do anything about it. Karuppu is the flirtatious kind, but unoffensive and a simpleton at heart. Despite shouldering tough family responsibilities, he does not let it show on his face. Subbaiah meets Kalyani in the bus and immediately develops liking to her. The two eventually fall in love after crossing a thick sheet of coy resistance. Saami is a familiar face in the village and a helping hand to all. Robust and physically strong, he is called in for assistance on almost all regards. After his father committed suicide, Saami had taken over the responsibility left behind by his dad, as the dam operator. The whole of first half takes time to carefully drive in all this detail and let it settle in our mind, and then the movie gets into the actual story.

With the village festival, as well as Nirmala's wedding date nearing, Shiva decides to surprise his family and friends, turning up a little earlier than the intimated date. It is on the same fateful day that Karuppu gets too drunk to handle the bus in the dark, and Subbaiah takes charge to ferry the vehicle across to Palani, from Pannaikadu. In the dark winding roads, someone suddenly falls in front of the bus, just as Subbaiah pulls it to a halt. But it seems too late, as the man is already injured. Scared by the reversal of roles and the eventual fatal accident, the driver and conductor pass on the unidentified man to a passerby, to get him admitted in the nearest hospital. When it dawns, the two realize it was Anna Sir's son Shiva who had met with the accident, and they rush to find out how he is doing. Surprisingly, there is no news of him being admitted in any hospital nearby. What arrives eventually is the news of Shiva's suicidal death, off a faraway hill. Why wasn't he admitted to the hospital by the stranger? How did Shiva die? Who is the stranger in the dark? Was it an accident or a murder, and why? Answers to all this is what 'Jannal Oram' constitutes of.

Vimal has an appealing screen presence as a conductor new on the job. The first few days when he struggles to get accustomed to the job and the new ambience are portrayed with simplistic originality. Manisha comes around as an unassuming yet smart girl, who feels the responsibility heavy on her shoulders, post the demise of her father. The charm of a little girl does not leave Manisha's face at any point in the story, and it is she who forms a pillar to the sharp turn that the story takes, slowly unfolding all the answers. Poorna is a responsible woman, with relatively minimal screen presence, yet strong role in the film. It is not often that Parthiban takes up a role, and his mere presence is proof of the pudding that the story is nothing like anything we have seen so far. The procedural introduction of characters and the practice to get used to who's who, would have been a drag, but for Parthiban's impromptu presence. As Karuppu, Parthiban has played a rigid supporting character. Vidharth here is a surprise package! As the story unfolds, it may seem predictable, but it is only at the fag end that the picture clears out on a heavy flashback.

With so many movies these days, wrapping up briefly on just a few prominent characters, 'Jannal Oram' is a lot to take in and digest. The film has a solid story, which begins only a little further into the screenplay, as it takes that long for all of the many characters to sync in. However, you may even be familiar with the narrow streets in Pannaikadu and the winding route from Palani by the time the actual story begins. Though it would have been abrupt to start the narrative before giving a clear picture about all characters, it seems rather too elaborate in a time when most movies are short and quick.

Pannaikadu is a beautiful place, and so is the long winding lanes on the mountainous terrains between Palani and the small village. With a major portion of the movie having shot in and around a bus in dangerously high and narrow locations, it takes an expert to bring the feeling to light, and Arbhindu Saara has done justice to the script in every way. 'Jannal Oram' is a story oriented film, with not much importance to the dreamy dance sequences. But Vidhayasagar's music is a welcome relief at places where the story seems to get too heavy on the audience. Breaking the traditional folk theme for song in the village's annual festival, 'Aasa Vecha Manasula' is an interesting change and also a turning point in the story. Editor in the movie also needs special mention, in making the rural concept look as appealing to the urban audience as possible.

'Jannal Oram' is an interesting journey, which turns a thriller in the second half. Stopping by to take note of most of the small emotions and gestures we miss in our everyday rush, the film is an interesting tale of a humble small town. The seat by the window that slides the captivating show of passing images is an interesting spot to sit at and ponder over the small things we fail to take notice of. 'Jannal Oram' is a careful attempt to spotlight these very small things in the life of a humble village. In all, it is a fairly predictable journey with sudden twists and turns on the way and a totally unpredictable destination

As the title goes, the plot also unveils itself in a reasonably carefree way without big twists and turns. Sathyaraj’s sarcasm and poignant deliverance is the key to this movie through the introduction as “Sivananda” a man of power who considers status as the most important thing that has been passed through generations. Not far away is our Bose Pandi aka Siva Karthikeyan who roams around the town as the head of VVS with sidekick Parotta Soori.

The main and only agenda of the sangam appears to be loafing around and coming up with innovative giant size posters. But that’s not the end of it; they also help the society when it comes to righteous tasks. That said, the comedy is “OK” except that it is a horde of one liner from Soori and Siva.

So predictably the new girl in the town Sri Vidhya is the daughter of Sathyaraj and Siva falls for her after a brief run up of events.

As the two go about in the town with their hoardings and loafing, in a mix up of events, Bose Pandi brings the wrath of Sivananda in various occurrences. And it reaches the crux when he finds that his own daughter is in love with Bose Pandi, what happens is to watch and find out.

The film can be classified into three halves, where the first with Sathyaraj’s intro, then Siva’s light hearted USP of comedy and then at any cost don’t miss out the climax which is the trump card with Sathyaraj’s best entertainment. Ponraj has made the best use of him in the last twenty minutes and details of that would become a spoiler.

The good and the bad part:

Ponram has given a light hearted comedy flick, the ones that we usual find in Rajesh’s. The one liners and situational comedy is apt and the flick no doubt is a family entertainer of all sorts. The film’s biggest strength is Sathyaraj, and the climax alone is enough to show his strength. The man who has shifted gears towards character roles is doing a good job out of it. Siva again, it is a wonder to see this guy in yet another healthy fun movie. That said, there might be a feeling that his comedy is becoming routine and considering his growing fan club, he should start opting for variety in his comedy array.

Soori too is still trying to win our hearts with his USP of one liners, a far stretch however is apt for a sidekick comedian. Srividhya is a fresh breeze in K-Wood and sure to stay. She fits neatly into the role of a village girl. Ideally this film should’ve been a finger licking good jesting movie as it has all the elements of a laughter pack with Sathyaraj, Siva, Soori, Ponram and Rajesh penning the dialogues. However it does miss the bulls’ eye by a fair margin with the jokes and timing humdrum, funny yes but not lol funny.

Imman’s songs are sweet but they come at unexpected instances and out of nowhere. That said Ponram’s staircase of VVS leads up to a climax that is worth the watch. As a whole it would appear as an average comedy movie, with occasional amusement.
Verdict : Sporadic tickles and giggles, yet a good entertainer!
